The Presence to Succeed:

How to be focused, calm and confident, even when the stakes are high

The greatest challenge we face everyday is how to remain secure and at ease when the stress is on or the stakes are high; whether that challenge is speaking in public, making decisions that matter, giving and receiving assessments, confronting difficult conversations and audiences, or even when moved and inspired to take action.

As a result of group and individual experiment, participants become aware of some of their hidden conditioned tendencies and the habits that are no longer effective for them. They learn fast-track processes that help shift their moods and emotional states, which opens them to greater freedom of choices of action and improve their chances of success in any situation.

The components of confident presence are explored, and how through physicality, language, gesture, voice, use of space and energy, we present ourselves to others. Participants discover how to access a positive and centred state from which they will feel and convey a focused, confident, professional presence in any situation.

Leadership Presence for Life:

An Introduction to The Foundations for Performance Mastery

What are the qualities that allow successful Leaders to remain secure and at ease when change, chaos, instability and high pressure is routine?

When success, action and influence are dependent on the quality of contact and conversations with others, how do we embody a presence that promotes credibility, safety and trust, and what are the skillful language patterns that get results?

How do our histories, experiences and language choices put us at risk of sabotaging our own success, and how can we update to more effective and appropriate strategies, and experience deep and lasting change?

This Workshop Program doesn’t just explain WHAT a leader should do, but reveals HOW to do it, by introducing you to the foundations for performance mastery.

As a result of group and individual experiment, you will discover how your presence is received by others, and learn processes and practices that help you recognise your habitual response to pressure, change inhibitory and ineffective patterns and shift from automatic, unconscious reactions to intended action.

You will discover how your history and experiences not only show up in your language, but even create your reality.

You will explore the language patterns that enable you to have the skilled conversations that minimise conflict, confrontation, error and breakdown and lead to influence, effective action and success.

You will learn the value of creating a leadership philosophy built from what you value, what you stand for, your purpose and direction...how it can help you take more courageous action and clearer decisions, and assist you to move through life with more confidence and certainty.

And you will learn why intentional, physical, focused practices and action help you become a master of choice rather than habit, and help you turn your vision, direction and purpose into reality.

Public Speaking and Presentation Skills Group Workshops

1 to 3 days from beginner to master.

In-house workshops are designed to suit group needs and experience. They can focus on any or all elements of the presentation process from structure, style and language to confident delivery. My public workshops usually focus on Speaking Presence and preparing for and managing hostile audiences. Groups are kept small for individual attention.

For example content, see below.

Content:

  • understand the emotional barriers and limiting beliefs preventing you starting and committing

  • create key messages that connect, inspire and motivate listeners to take action

  • build, organise, and structure your ideas and material for maximum impact

  • use appropriate style and language to influence your audience

  • anticipate resistance and prevent problems before they happen

  • use visual aids and illustrate your presentation to engage your audience

Preparation and Delivery:

  • understand how you are perceived by others

  • learn how performance anxiety is sabotaging your success and how to move beyond it

  • turn anxiety into adrenaline, nerves into positive presence

  • learn short-step practices to access a positive mental and physical state so you can convey a focused, professional presence

  • command attention and gain credibility through effective physical and vocal tone and expression

  • deal confidently with responses, difficult questions and hostile audiences

Creating a Code of Ethical Behaviour

Have you ever considered the value of creating a Code of Ethical Behaviour? Any business or group employing a group of people should have one, because it helps individuals represent the organisation appropriately, leads to clearer and more confident decision making, increases ethical sensitivity and judgement, strengthens support for individuals’ moral courage and could lead to less personal anxiety and stress.

This is a full day workshop for small to medium businesses, voluntary groups or charities who want to develop a Code of Ethics, but don’t know how to start, or need a facilitator to keep safe the sometimes difficult conversations that arise from discussing ethical dilemmas.

Kirstie will kick start your process with a pre-amble on ethical behaviour at work; history, definitions, value priorities and conflicts, personal versus work ethics, the challenges of inclusion and diversity in the workplace, a discussion on relevant examples of ethical dilemmas, what it means for the individual, self-responsibility and self awareness of our contact, presence and impact on others; what a code is and why it is needed, examples of best practice, future action required to ensure a living document.

She will then lead small group activities so the group participants can agree and establish a process to guide decision making: a statement of the company’s core and priority values, a definition for each value and a description of a set of behaviours related to the principle values, case studies to aide understanding and so on.

She will also refine and write up the final document and offer advice on future action.

An introduction to Therapeutic Presence:

Knowing how to sit, so we can better receive.

Workshop for Therapists, Bodyworkers, Carers, Nurses

We are, consciously or not, quite literally touched by another’s being. And so we have a responsibility to take care of how our presence is received by others (and how, in turn, we can both fully receive and protect ourselves from theirs). This is especially true if our work is hands-on, but is relevant to any space where the client must feel securely held, and respected. This half or full day workshop explores why we should be more intentional with our presence(whether that is to bring something to existence, or to simply get out of the way), what therapeutic presence is, the advantages, disadvantages and ethics of working with and without it, and the practices that help to embody the presence that is appropriate to the relationship and that enhances our own effectiveness and wellbeing, as well as that of our clients.

Keynotes or short Seminars:

For Women in Business/Women Leaders:

In Defense of The Invisible Leader

Women leaders, and the arenas in which they have practiced leadership, have been invisible for so long. But is being more visible the only answer...or are we measuring ourselves against invalid criteria for success? And do we risk devaluing exactly those qualities and strengths that drive the essential nature of our power? In this inspiring and thought-provoking talk, Kirstie questions the argument for valuing visibility over invisibility, and reveals how, if we broaden our acceptance of what is valuable, and take the care to commit to what we value, we can contribute to a new kind of world, one in which we no longer have to be more than who we already are. But it's not just talk...she also reveals what we have to learn, so we can make it happen. (For a taster, see articles page)

Women in Business/Women Leaders

Taking Care of Success

It's time for a new type of leader; one who Takes Care; of their personal and organisational values; of their people; of the common purpose and the bigger picture. The problem is, many leaders strongly resist expressing the Presence of Care, because they assume it’s about being nice, or too soft, showing weakness, or failing to assert their authority. But they are wrong; it is none of these things. In this motivating and informative talk, Kirstie explains what Taking Care is really about, and why it's far from a soft option - it takes courage, committment and skill. She reveals why Taking Care creates the conditions for success; and what it means for women in leadership.(For a taster, see articles page)

Public Speaking SEMINARS

Life's A Pitch

Many people (and women in particular) avoid speaking about themselves, their service, or their product because they feel uncomfortable with the idea of ‘selling’ and don’t believe they are good at it. This talk reveals why we are all perfectly good at pitching, in fact, we do it all the time (we just don't realise). Learn what pitching is really about (and why pushy pitching is not the answer), what you need to know and the questions you need to ask in order to do it better, and how a simple shift in attitude means you can stop fearing and start loving it!

Make A Date, Not A Presentation!

Contrary to popular belief, a presentation is not about informing people about yourself, the product or idea. It’s a bit like a date; we want to get "hitched, not pitched.” This entertaining talk explains the real purpose of a presentation; to promote the value of an enduring relationship. The good news, is, you are already an expert at doing it! Learn how to get connected, why focusing on the relationship will not only set you apart from the competition, but will help diminish performance anxiety, and find out the 5 steps to creating a relationship building presentation.

Stop Sabotaging, Start Presenting

Many people avoid speaking in public because they believe they don’t have what it takes to be a confident presenter. But what exactly DOES it take to present well? What special skills or talents do confident speakers possess? Actually, there aren’t any, but they have certainly learnt a thing a two along the way and you can learn those things too. In fact, the great news is, you ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO SUCCEED! Yes, its true, you just didn’t realize, because you have believed the myths of public speaking. I'll reveal some of the secrets, along with valuable lessons you can apply directly to your next presentation and approach it with greater confidence and ease.

Write So You are Heard, Speak So People Listen

The simple solution to creating and delivering a clear, memorable presentation

Could you be sabotaging your success by making everything so darn difficult? Go easy on yourself and your audience by following my Simple Solution for creating and delivering a presentation. And in this current climate, it is even more crucial you stand out from the crowd, so you want to be sure your message stands out and grabs the attention of your audience....and that it won't get lost in translation. The answer is to keep it simple. But keeping it simple can be very hard to do. In this seminar I share some top tips for getting your structure and delivery clear, from starting smartly to ending strongly, and everything in between (including how to keep your head when all seems lost).

Workshop participants say…

From one pre-workshop conversation, Kirstie instantly got what we were about. On the Away-Day we achieved so much more than we thought possible, and we had a great time
